Leicester City Secures Spot in FA Cup Quarter-Finals
Bournemouth’s chances of progressing in the Football Association Challenge Cup (FA Cup) have slipped away after losing 1-0 to Leicester City last night, Tuesday 27 February.
The two teams went head-to-head at Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth, England in their first-ever meeting. Despite the fans’ high hopes, it was a tumultuous game from the start with neither side managing to claim a point by the 90-minute end-time whistle.
Due to the lack of result, officials extended the match by an extra 30 minutes to decide which club would go through to the quarter-finals. Finally, in the 105th minute, Foxes striker Abdul Fatawu was able to break the stalemate and claim the single point of the match.
“We are happy because tonight we missed many chances, but in the end we have been lucky because we could score one goal,” said Leicester head coach, Enzo Maresca, during the post-match press conference.
“We always try to share minutes in this kind of game because all of the players deserve the chance,” he explained before adding: “Tonight was a mix between many young players and some senior players and in the end, we played a good game.”
